Hotel Il Lavatoio Dimora Storica

The Lavatoio was conceived by the Municipality of Castel di Sangro to restore the old municipal washhouse, which was once used by women to wash clothes. The project included the architectural restoration of the site with the approval of the Superintendence of Architectural and Cultural Heritage of the province of L’Aquila. Now, the Lavatoio has been restored to its full beauty, featuring a support structure for the museum area and several rooms for visitors and tourists vacationing in the Alto Sangro area.

The Lavatoio is located in Castel di Sangro, just 9 kilometers from the tourist center of Roccaraso – Rivisondoli – Aremogna, in the Alto Sangro valley, with views of the surrounding mountains. The structure has 10 rooms on two floors and three rooms on two separate floors, accessible by two spiral staircases. Smoking is prohibited throughout the facility. Located in the heart of the town’s historic center, the B&B features a large garden with various relaxation spots. Additionally, guests can enjoy a small private (unattended) parking lot, free Wi-Fi, TV in all rooms, a spacious hall with a fireplace, and an exhibition area made from the old municipal washhouse, entirely in stone.

Families with Young Children

The Lavatoio is a small structure with many corners in the common rooms that do not have the necessary space for entertaining children on vacation with their parents. Therefore, families with young children are advised to choose a hotel that can offer them more recreational opportunities. The minimum age for booking at the Lavatoio is 12 years old.

Pets

The Hotel Lavatoio does not accept pets, to ensure a peaceful stay for all guests, especially those who may suffer from allergies to animal fur or have a fear of dogs. The goal is to offer everyone the opportunity to enjoy a stress-free vacation.

Accommodation

The rooms at the Lavatoio are cozy and furnished with care and attention to detail. The windows in all rooms open onto the garden or the mountains that frame the Alto Sangro valley.

The rooms can accommodate one person if needed. Each room is equipped with a bed, wardrobe, LCD TV, free Wi-Fi, safe, glass desk with a comfortable seat for one person.

All rooms have a large bathroom with a shower box and all necessary amenities (beauty set, hairdryer, bath sponges of various sizes).

Breakfast

At the Lavatoio, breakfast is an important moment. The breakfast will surely satisfy your morning appetite: coffee, milk, tea, chocolate, cappuccino (all made with a bar machine), and various fruit juices are offered. There are cereals, yogurt, biscuits, rusks, bread, cakes and croissants, jams, honey, and fresh seasonal fruit available to eat. There is also a selection of cold cuts and cheeses for toast and hot sandwiches, with the option to request freshly made boiled eggs.

In the breakfast room, there is a large display that shows real-time weather conditions with views from the best webcams in the area. In summer, you can check the weather conditions in the towns to visit, while in winter you have a “live” window on the snow-covered mountains and the conditions of the Alto Sangro ski area.

The Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta

The Lavatoio structure is located below the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta. The bells are the only “noise” present, representing a “constant companion” for the guests. The Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta is the main religious building in Castel di Sangro, located in the upper part of the town, the Civita, visible from a long distance. The structure has three naves with two orders of arches and two bell towers. The Basilica dates back to the second half of the 10th century and has a rich and fascinating history.
